76ers take Western Kentucky big Charles Bassey with 53rd pick

With their final selection of the night, the Philadelphia 76ers take another big man, selecting Western Kentucky’s Charles Bassey with the 53rd pick. Philly acquired the pick earlier this morning from the New Orleans Pelicans for $2 million. During this past season, Bassey averaged 17.6 points per game alongside 11.6 rebounds and 3.1 blocks.

Standing at 6’11, Charles Bassey has a relentless motor and is dominant at the rim on both sides of the court. If left open, he can shoot from the perimeter but needs to work on his shooting ability overall. As a result of his incredible season, Bassey was named both the Conference USA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

The 76ers attacked center just three picks prior, selecting Serbian big man Filip Petrusev. Philly now has a good amount of big man prospects between Bassey, Petrusev, and Paul Reed. Not many expected the Sixers to make all three of their selections tonight, but it will be interesting to see how many of these draft picks will be on the 76ers’ roster to start the season.
