Portland Trail Blazers guard praises Joel Embiid following $200 million supermax deal

It’s August 26th and all signs indicate that the Philadelphia 76ers will be running it back this season. There have been no major moves from the team this offseason after a rough second round exit at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks just a few months ago. Yes, the title of this blog post could be considered click bait, but if we are a Philadelphia sports blog and aren’t going to capitalize on rumors surrounding the Sixers and the Portland Trailblazers, what the hell are we doing here?

Blazers guard CJ McCollum recently spoke on his podcast, “Pull Up with CJ McCollum” about Joel Embiid and his recent four-year super max extension he signed with the 76ers. McCollum was pretty shocked about Embiid’s injury history but had this to say about the Sixers franchise center’s payday:
“He could’ve played ten games, and I still would’ve given him $200 million. He’s that good.”
High praise of CJ McCollum, who was also thrown into Ben Simmons trade rumors before the thought of Damian Lillard rose to the top this offseason. There were several reported articles say that the Blazers were willing to move McCollum for Ben Simmons, but that the 76ers weren’t interested.

McCollum went on to discuss how Joel Embiid is the most dominant big man in the game and how he liked the 76ers big three in Embiid, Simmons, and Harris. While uncertainty surrounds Ben Simmons and his future with the Sixers, rumors continue to fly about possible trade destinations such as the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. All things considered, we might just see the same starting lineup that we saw last season, which still has the 76ers ranked highly in ESPNs power rankings released last week.
