This is a quote from Emmanuel Acho when talking about Ben Simmons yesterday on Speak for Yourself. If you’re wondering what in the world Emmanuel Acho is talking about, I assure you, that I am too. It’s one of the dumbest takes you’ll ever hear but as we all know, that should be expected by now when the national media comments on something they know nothing about.

Acho is no stranger to saying dumb things on national television. We all remember when he said that “legalizing weed in track and field competition is terribly dangerous if you throw a javelin” suggesting that a stoned Olympian throwing a javelin would kill someone.

Acho continued to say that “What we can all agree on, is that Ben Simmons was not embraced by the village.”

Just when you thought that his dumb take couldn’t get any worse, Acho exposes himself as a fraud who knows nothing about 76ers basketball or Philadelphia in the second sentence he speaks into the camera. Ben Simmons was embraced by this city. Just like Markelle Fultz was. Just like Carson Wentz was. Just like any athlete that comes into Philadelphia has been for as long as sports have been played in the city.

The take that Philadelphia doesn’t embrace their athletes is the laziest, most fraudulent take maybe in sports history. The 76ers embraced him. Joel Embiid did everything possible, literally until a week ago, to embrace Ben Simmons. Acho sounds like one of those television ministers lying to a group of fragile people that in the end, he will scam for money.

A take like this should be a fireable offense. It has zero since of truth or accuracy. Emmanuel Acho and everyone involved in Speak for Yourself should be embarrassed and taken off air.
