Apparently Deadspin is still a website and yesterday, wrote a dumb article about 76ers fans

Full disclosure, I honestly had no idea Deadspin was still a website. Once I got over the shock and awe of realizing that Deadspin was still a website, I stumbled across an article written by some guy named Criss Partee, where he wrote a way too long blog post about Allen Iverson and the comments he made last week regarding Ben Simmons. Iverson, has talked about Ben Simmons more than a few times over the past month hoping to help Ben Simmons navigate through a drama filled 2021 season.
Side Note: How does a Twitter account like Deadspin with nearly one million followers get three likes on a tweet? Brutal.
As you can probably assume already, Portland native Criss Partee, who already has an annoying name and lives in one of the furthest points away from the city of Philadelphia, has literally no idea what he’s talking about when speaking about 76ers fans. So let’s take a second and point out everything stupid in Criss’s article.
The quote Partee focuses on is from Iverson last week when he said the following:
“I think the connection with the fans got out of hand and that’s what Ben didn’t want to have to deal with coming back. My whole thing with our fans is we with you if you with us. But when we feel like you don’t want to be with us, then…”
To be clear, this article was written and posted yesterday. That’s important to understand when we actually look at what was said by Partee, who clearly did not do a lick of research on what’s actually happening in Philadelphia with Ben Simmons. The first thing stupid that Partee wrote, was that “fans in Philly aren’t just with you automatically because you are with the team” and that Philly fans “are with you if you only play to their lofty standards.”
Obviously, this isn’t true. There are no lofty standards in Philadelphia and writing that even more so when talking about something that Allen Iverson wrote is the first major red flag in the article. There are no lofty standards in Philadelphia. It’s honestly really simple Criss, we just expect players on our sports teams to represent our city and work hard, be the best they can be, and give everything they have while representing the city.
He continues to reference the Joel Embiid video of him saying that he’s not here to babysit Ben Simmons from the practice postgame media session like, two weeks ago. Partee completely ignores the fact that Ben Simmons returned to the team, took some responsibility, and both Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid came out in support of Simmons and asked the fans to do the same. How convenient. Criss then continues to double down, like he’s been locked in a room with no cell phone or television over the past few weeks saying that fans and Embiid’s criticism of Simmons is far from productive.
From there, I have to ask Criss is he even trying to write an article that is factual or is he just a lazy piece of shit? I would then ask Deadspin why they even published this article to begin with? None of it even makes sense. Besides a few one-off comments from Embiid, clearly made in frustration, he has been nothing but supportive of Ben Simmons. Just read his tweets you idiot.
“Philly fans will boo anybody. It just depends on their mood that day.”
I don’t even have anything to say about that idiotic quote from the article. If you’re a Philadelphia fan, you’ll know why.
Partee then turns the blame to Daryl Morey saying that Philadelphia 76ers have let him off the hook. Honestly, I don’t have a problem with this. Yes, the 76ers and Morey did the right thing by not bending to the demands from Ben Simmons and Klutch Sports. The entire league should be thanking them. It set a precedent that young stars in the NBA can’t just decide to not play for a team anymore after signing a max contract extension.
It would have been nice, however, if the 76ers realized the situation with Ben Simmons and went out and brought in more guard help before the season started. The one thing the 76ers front office got wrong was the fact that they could convince Ben Simmons to play once returning to Philadelphia and the jury is still out on that one. Everything seems to be trending in the right direction with Simmons and the Sixers. Yesterday, he was a full participant at practice and according to Doc Rivers, was “in good spirits.”
And of course, like every article that talks about Philadelphia sports fans, the key indicator that whoever wrote it is an absolute moron and has no idea what he or she is talking about, we have Santa Claus comments.
I mean, for Christ’s sake, these people once booed Santa Claus (while pelting him with snowballs) and Beyoncé. This is the city that had an epidemic of sports fans punching police horses. Who punches a police horse? Talk about no f’s given, sheesh.
Yeah we booed Destiny’s Child because they were wearing Lakers gear in Philly while performing during the NBA finals. Fuck that. Throwing snowballs at Santa is the laziest thing ever and the dude who punched the horse was obviously an idiot and can’t be used to make sweeping generalizations about an entire fan base.
These are the types of articles I tried to tell everyone about last week, when that dumbass was having sex with a headless Ben Simmons piñata. You are giving idiots like Criss Partee and anyone else not from this city ammunition to write and say stupid, baseless things about the city of Philadelphia.
