Eagles make statement, release former starting linebacker Eric Wilson

Another one of the Eagles’ few additions this offseason is gone. Just now, the Eagles announced that they had waived linebacker Eric Wilson. Wilson was brought in to be a starter in Jonathan Gannon’s defense but has played miserably, ranked among the worst in football.
Over the last few weeks, Wilson had been losing his snaps to Davion Taylor and T.J. Edwards before being benched and made a healthy scratch for Sunday. It was rumored he could have been involved in trade talks, but it was likely the Eagles trying to find a home before dumping him.
Who they will bring in is unclear, but the Eagles are making it clear they want a change at linebacker. Alex Singleton had also been benched for Taylor and Edwards on Sunday, being the worst coverage LB in football.
Howie Roseman signed Eric Wilson to a one-year deal worth $2.75 million this offseason, and the contract was fully guaranteed. The Eagles also let go of Brett Toth yesterday for Kary Vincent Jr., but he could be on his way back after this move.
