Rumor: Eagles players upset with Howie Roseman

Things don’t seem to be sunny in Philadelphia. Although Fletcher Cox appeared to be okay, not everyone in the building is happy that he was involved in trade talks. Yesterday, Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that some members of the Eagles are upset with the notion of throwing away the 2021 season.
Fletcher Cox has been a franchise centerpiece for almost a decade but had some interest from several teams at the trade deadline. Howie Roseman asked for a second and third-round draft pick to move Cox, but a deal never materialized. Throughout the process, Roseman and Nick Sirianni kept in contact with Fletcher Cox to keep him updated on the situation.
“The ramifications of trading Cox, the team’s best player, two days after a 38-point road win could not be clearer. Clearly, 2021 means nothing to Roseman and owner Jeffrey Lurie. That’s how several players saw it, according to a league source with several ties to the locker room.”
It’s no secret the Eagles are in a rebuilding year and while many, including myself, are upset with Howie Roseman, getting draft capital for him and the others who were traded isn’t a bad idea. What is more concerning is that Hayes brought up another reason why players were upset at the potential trade.
“They’re irked because they think Cox was being shopped because, the week before, he’d publicly complained about being misused in a chronically docile defense. They’re suspicious that Roseman wanted to trade Cox because he’d rocked the boat tenuously captained by ill-suited, first-time head coach Nick Sirianni and his equally overmatched defensive coordinator, Jonathan Gannon.”
Cox attacked Gannon’s use of him in covering screens and not attacking the QB against the Las Vegas Raiders. His comments were perfectly worded, and the entirety of the city agreed with him, and it looked like Jonathan Gannon changed his ways a bit last Sunday against Detroit.
If this accusation is true, that could cause significant trouble between the players and the organization. Fletcher Cox has been one of the best players in the NFL for several seasons and has earned a right to say those things to the media, even if he’s not still at that level. Last week reports surfaced that Chargers head coach Brandon Staley turned down the Eagles job because of Howie Roseman.
All of these reports of displeasure throughout the years all boil down to one person, Howie Roseman. It’s hard for Eagles fans to get excited about the mass amounts of draft capital they have because of who’s in charge. In the meantime, the Eagles are preparing to host Staley’s Chargers tomorrow afternoon at 1:00.
