Season finale preview: Union at NYCFC

The Philadelphia Union take the field this afternoon in Yankee Stadium for the last match of their regular season. The Union have already clinched a playoff spot, but this game is very important in terms of seeding and home field advantage. A win today would clinch second place in the Eastern Conference and give home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
The Union and NYCFC have already met twice during the regular season with both games taking place at Subaru Park. The Union and NYCFC split these two games. The Union have struggled in New York and have yet to win a game there. In six games, the Union have lost five times and tied once. NYCFC is on a three game win streak and don’t have trouble finding the back of the net. Heading into the last game of the regular season, NYCFC have score 55 goals with Valentin Castellanos scoring 18 of them. Castellanos is in the race for the golden boot and will look to score again today.Â
Union midfielder Daniel Gazdag has continued to impress, as his minutes have increased with the club. He even earned a spot on this week’s MLS team of the week. Jamiro Montiero is still unable to play with a knee injury, which means that young stud Paxten Aaronson will probably get the start again.
Before today’s last regular season game, Union head coach Jim Curtin wrote a letter in the paper to all of the fans. This seems to be a tradition now for Curtin and hopefully they have a long and successful playoff run.
Parx Sportsbook Prediction: NYCFC 2-0
NYCFC has a lot on the line today, and I believe they try to make a statement game before heading into the playoffs.Â
