Joel Embiid tests positive for COVID-19

Devastating news for Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers. Just hours after it was reported that he was entering the NBA’s Health and Safety protocols, Joel Embiid has tested positive for COVID-19, per Ramona Shelbourne. Embiid’s positive test has been deemed a breakthrough test since he is vaccinated? Not sure how that makes sense due to the fact that millions of people are testing positive even though they are vaccinated but we’ll leave that up to the doctors and scientists.

Since Embiid is positive but is vaccinated, he will likely be out the entirety of the ten-day period until he is ready to return since he is also symptomatic. Joel is just one of numerous 76ers to enter protocols, joining Matisse Thybulle, Tobias Harris, and Isaiah Joe. Hopefully, Embiid and his family are all good, and he will be able to make a swift and full recovery.

If Joel Embiid misses the next ten days, he will not participate in their games against the Knicks, Bucks, Raptors, Pacers, Jazz, and Nuggets. The 76ers star was not scheduled to play tonight anyway as it was a planned off night, while Harris should be available to return in the coming days.

Shockingly, the 76ers have yet to have their games postponed by the NBA with a large number of positive cases amongst the teams. With numerous players testing positive over several days, there’s a chance it could spread to opposing teams. Adam Silver also forced the team to play with just seven players last season, so it isn’t all that surprising. The 76ers return to action tonight at 7:00, hosting the New York Knicks.
