Daryl Morey is working with Gary V and TikTok star Bryce Hall in a crypto and NFT focused group to buy an English soccer team

Daryl Morey was recently brought up in the news and it had nothing to do with Ben Simmons trade rumors or Klutch Sports hit pieces. According to a story from The Washington Post, Morey is a part of a group of investors looking to purchase an English soccer team.
The group of investors is highly focused on crypto and NFT, which will serve as a the funding piece to if they are able to purchase a soccer team. Here’s a piece of the article on WaPo:
“The group is led by Preston Johnson, a prominent sports gambling analyst, and Smith, a former derivatives trader now immersed in the NFT space. It also includes Daryl Morey, the Philadelphia 76ers’ team president; businessman Gary Vaynerchuk, the chair of VaynerX; social media personality Bryce Hall, who has more than 21 million TikTok followers; and several creators, collectors and investors from the NFT and cryptocurrency worlds.“
Right. So Daryl Morey is working with Gary Vaynerchuk, TikTok star Bryce Hall, and a bunch of other business people and content creators to purchase an English soccer team. I know I have said that already three times now but I can’t help but be upset at this news as I die slowly every night watching the Philadelphia 76ers struggle to compete against COVID and injury ridden versions of NBA basketball teams.
As you probably know by now, Morey and the a large portion of Philadelphia 76ers players have really dove in to the NFT world. Tobias Harris, Seth Curry, and Daryl Morey all use certain NFTs as profile pictures online, we all remember what happened a few months ago when Ben Simmons updated his profile picture to an NFT (shoutout to the Gutter Dogs #GangGang).
The 76ers organization announced Crypto.com as their new uniform sponsor before the start of this season. Alongside the new sponsorship, came a bunch of Spectrum related NFTs, so obviously it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Morey is heavily involved in purchasing a soccer team that has a primary focus of crypto and NFT investors.
Fine. I honestly don’t care about the NFT stuff as much as everyone else does on social media. People really can’t stand the fact that Sixers players are spending their money on this type of stuff. I really don’t understand where that comes from but whatever.
Morey can also do whatever he wants in his spare time and the NBA is certainly a business, so it makes sense that he’s looking for other investments while also working with the 76ers. However, I would like some type of transparency on what the plan is for the Sixers team moving forward.
The Sixers have lost three straight games to teams riddled with injuries and key players on health and safety protocols. Outside of Joel Embiid and Seth Curry, the Sixers are an absolute dumpster fire. We have so much work to do before we can consider this team an NBA contender which is wild given the fact that they were the number one seed in the Eastern Conference last year and considered one of the best teams in the league over the last three years.
I just want to win basketball games, man.
