Woj: If Ben Simmons returned to 76ers, he would get a standing ovation

Ben Simmons has completely destroyed the national media. On one side of the spectrum, you have people like Brian Windhorst, Ramona Shelburne, and Shams all acting as talking heads for Rich Paul and Klutch Sports. The opposite end has Adrian Wojnarowski doing the bidding of Daryl Morey and the 76ers organization.
It’s rare that both sides of the bullshit cross paths, but a new clip from The Woj Pod featured Ramona Shelburne and of course, they were talking about Ben Simmons.
Woj is willing to bet that Ben Simmons would get a standing ovation if he returned to play for the 76ers. I know it’s even crazy to fathom someone saying that in a serious tone, but Woj was definitely not joking.
Woj on Ben Simmons 76ers Return
First of all, there’s no way that Woj can actually believe this to be true. He’s the lead NBA guy at ESPN and has been following the Ben Simmons saga just like us for the past nine months. Did he all of the sudden forget Philadelphia fans and the fact that they are constantly criticized for booing their own players on a weekly basis? I highly doubt it.
From there, you have to assume that the Philadelphia 76ers organization and Daryl Morey are yet again, floating the idea out there that Ben Simmons could return to Philadelphia and that he would be accepted by the city and his teammates. Who better to deliver that message than their talking head on ESPN, Adrian Wojnarowski?
Not a bad strategy. Well never mind, it’s a terrible strategy.
Everyone knows what Woj is spewing is so far from the truth of what actually would happen if Ben Simmons returned to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Every side of Ben Simmons has been in full on panic mode over the past week since the NBA Trade Deadline is quickly approaching on February 10th. You have the Sixers within a game of first place in the Eastern Conference. You have Joel Embiid playing at an MVP level. You have Tyrese Maxey progressing into a star in the NBA while making us forget about Ben Simmons with each passing night.
So of course, you have these reports and other puff pieces from Ramona Shelburne highlighting Ben Simmons as a victim rather than the jealous, narcissistic baby that he actually is, while Woj and the 76ers are trying to convince him everything would be fine and dandy if he returned.
There would be no standing ovation for Ben Simmons. There would be no welcoming him back. However, the city of Philadelphia could reach that type of reception relatively quickly.
As it has been throughout this entire soap opera, all Ben Simmons has to do is address the media and 76ers fans as say the following:
- I’m sorry for all of the distractions I have caused.
- The NBA is a business and I struggled in Philadelphia, so I wanted to start over somewhere else.
- That did not happen. I don’t want to dwell on the past. I’m ready to return and play basketball for the Philadelphia 76ers.
From there, Simmons would have to address his teammates. He then would have to show up to practice and work his way back on the court. When he did eventually return, he would have to go through being booed relentlessly by 76ers fans.
How long the boos would last is totally up to him. If he shoots the damn basketball, my guess is that after the 76ers win every game for a week straight, the boos would start to fade and we can get back to chasing an NBA Championship.
None of this even matters. It’s all a load of bullshit. The media can’t be trusted. Everyone has an agenda. Ben Simmons is not returning to Philadelphia. Hell, I’m not sure he even wants to play basketball anymore. I also don’t believe that anyone really wants to trade for him.
I’m exhausted.
