Danny Green talks with DeVonta Smith about Ben Simmons, cheesesteaks, and Jalen Hurts

DeVonta Smith joined Danny Green on his SiriusXM show to discuss a wide variety of topics involving the Super Bowl, Ben Simmons, and the Philadelphia 76ers. Full disclosure, we have tweets from someone talking SiriusXM show and others from The Green Room Podcast so for the sake of this article, I’m just throwing them all in one. Figure it out on your own time.
Honestly, when I saw these tweets popping up, I thought it was pretty bizarre. Danny Green asking DeVonta Smith about what the Sixers should do with Ben Simmons just seemed weird.
Green asked Smith if the 76ers should trade Simmons. Smitty responded “As a fan of basketball, if it was me, I would trade him.”
Yeah. I think we can all agree with Smith on this one. Pretty standard answer, I’m not sure what else Smitty could have said besides that.
Ben Simmons isn’t playing basketball and refuses to play for the Philadelphia 76ers. Anyone with half of a brain would have answered in the same way. Not blaming Smitty here, it was just a dumb question from Green.
Smith went on to say that you also have to respect Simmons’ privacy, which makes sense. Although I don’t agree with this statement, I understand viewing it from that side, even more so from Smith, who is generally a more reserved athlete himself.
Still, I’m not really sure what else Smitty would come out and say. He just finished up his rookie year and has always been a polite, somewhat quiet person. Danny Green fishing for some type of hard stance from Smitty didn’t really seem to make sense from the start.
Simmons won’t be traded this season, but also won’t hold out?
On his own podcast, Danny Green said he thinks Daryl Morey is in the right for holding out until the right deal comes along. Shortly after, Green said he believes Simmons won’t sit out the remainder of the season on account of all the money he is due.
That goes with my new running theory that everyone is trying to get Ben Simmons back playing for the Philadelphia 76ers before the end of the season. Woj recently came out with a bizarre report saying that he believes Ben Simmons would get a standing ovation if he returned to the 76ers. Woj, a known 76ers organizational talking head, probably had an agenda in saying such things.
Everyone in the media is still gushing over a beyond stupid ESPN+ article from Ramona Shelburne in which Ben blamed Doc Rivers, Joel Embiid, and acted like a victim in this entire situation, which we all know, is complete bullshit. In the same article, Shelburne said Simmons will meet with the 76ers after the deadline if he’s not traded. Riddle me that.
Oh, and after Shaq completely dragged Simmons last week on NBA on TNT, we learned today that Ben DM’d Shaq after seeing what he had to say and was upset with him. (lol).
Anyways, here’s DeVonta Smith on Cheesesteaks
Back to the interview, Smith was then asked about cheesesteaks. Of course, all the weirdo cheesesteak cult in Philadelphia won’t like how Smith responded, but I have to admit, he’s right.
Smith said that cheesesteaks are overrated.
Look, if you’re not from Philadelphia and you see how the entire city acts about cheesesteaks on social media and in any type of news segment, and then you get here and go to one of the two main “tourist” cheesesteak places, of course saying they are overrated is an appropriate answer.
