Report: Jonathan Gannon out of the running for Texans’ head coach position

After lengthy consideration, Jonathan Gannon is reported to be out of the running for the Houston Texans’ head coach opening.
Gannon was a final candidate for the Texans’ job alongside Brian Flores and Josh McCown. The Eagles defensive coordinator also interviewed with the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings but will be returning to the Eagles for the 2022 season.
According to Josina Anderson, Houston considers the process to be ongoing, but it’s almost certainly going to former Eagles quarterback Josh McCown.
It’s unfortunate that Gannon didn’t land a job this offseason, but he will certainly be a prime candidate for another head coaching gig next offseason. Numerous Eagles assistants were considered for top coaching positions across the league, but Nick Sirianni’s staff will be staying put for another year.
Former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson agreed to a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday while his DC, Jim Schwartz, interviewed with the New York Giants for the same role yesterday.
Although he’s controversial, Gannon clearly improved over the second half of the Eagles’ season before their Wild Card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Many of his issues can be chalked up to poor personnel, especially in the linebacker unit.
With three first-round picks and $40 million to spend this offseason, Howie Roseman has a prime opportunity to improve Philadelphia’s defense.
