11 former Eagles selected during 2022 USFL Draft

Earlier this week, the USFL conducted its inaugural draft for the upcoming season this spring. There were some well-known names from the NFL in the new league, including former first-round pick Paxton Lynch. Most Eagles fans recognized former Eagles draft pick Clayton Thorson when he was selected 5th overall, but several other familiar faces were taken throughout the draft.
In total, 11 former Eagles were selected. Two quarterbacks, four cornerbacks, two defensive tackles, a wide receiver, safety, and tight end. Here’s how things shook out.
QB Clayton Thorson: 1st round
Thorson was selected in the 5th round of the 2019 NFL draft. He appeared in a few preseason games before being waived during roster cuts.
DT Destiny Vaeao: 24th round
Vaeao spent three seasons in Philadelphia, signing with the team as a UDFA in 2016. He played mostly during his rookie season, where he recorded 15 tackles in two sacks while starting every game. Although he was part of the Super Bowl 52 team, he was inactive for the game.
QB Kyle Lauletta: 1st round
Lauletta was picked up by the Eagles on their practice squad after letting go of Thorson, but was waived the following offseason. He is also from the area, previously attending Downingtown East High School.
CB De’Vante Bausby: 8th round
Bausby spent a lot of time in Philadelphia and was on the team during their Super Bowl 52 victory. He recorded 14 tackles and started one game for the Eagles in 2018 before being let go late in the season.
CB Jameson Houston: 9th round
Houston saw some time on the field, playing in three games in 2020, but was moved that off-season in exchange for Josiah Scott.
CB Ajene Harris: 8th round
Harris was a UDFA who tried out for Philadelphia in 2019 and eventually made the practice squad in September but never saw the field.
CB Trae Elston: 9th round
Elston was on the roster for a total of ten days in 2017 and briefly saw the field on special teams during his one week with the Eagles.
WR Manasseh Bailey: 17th round
Bailey was a UDFA in 2020 but was let go that summer during training camp cuts.
S Obi Melifonwu: 18th round
Melifonwu worked out with the Eagles last summer but was waived just a few weeks later after suffering an injury in training camp.
DT JaQuan Bailey: 25th round
Bailey signed with the Eagles as a UDFA last summer but was waived during training camp.
TE Cary Angeline: 34th round
Angeline is another Downingtown East product, signing with the team during training camp in 2021 but was let go just a week later.
