Recap: Bedoya and Gazdag guide Philadelphia Union to a 2-1 victory in Montréal

The Philadelphia Union were in Canada earlier this afternoon to take on CF Montréal in their second match of the 2022 MLS season. After a draw in their 2022 home opener last weekend against Minnesota United last weekend, the Union bounced back with a 2-1 victory to earn three points on the road.
First Half
For the second game in a row, the Philadelphia Union got off to a slow start and failed to capitalize on a few opportunities in the first half. They fell behind 1-0 in the 31st minute after a crazy shot deflection that send a blooper past Andre Blake in the corner of the net.
Second Half
The Union caught a break after a disallowed CF Montréal goal and finally got things moving in their favor. Alejandro Bedoya delivered the equalizer with a shot that somehow got through a sea of Montréal defenders and into the back of the net.
A few minutes later, the Union struck yet again after some beautiful teamwork from Wagner and Carranza, finding Daniel Gazdag on the cross to give the Union a 2-1 advantage.
With the lead, the victory fell on Andre Blake’s shoulders. The Union were able to eliminate a few Montréal chances with strong defensive challenges and yet another signature fingertip save from Andre Blake.
In the 67th minute, we finally got the highly anticipated debut of Mikael Uhre. The Union acquired Danish striker from Brøndby IF in the Danish Super League during the offseason and is expected to provide a huge offensive spark this season following the surprise transfer of Kacper Przybyłko.
Uhre notched his first shot after getting behind the Montréal defense, but ended up hitting the side netting inches outside the near post. Uhre almost SCORED but Breza stopped his narrow angle break away. Regardless, it wasn’t a bad showing for his first minutes in a Union kit.
Final Score: 2-1 Union
The Union will leave Canada earning three points on the road. On the season, the Union now have four total points. This game was a much better showing than the home opener and after a strong second half, it looks like the Union are getting more comfortable with each passing minute.
