The 76ers stayed an extra night in Miami and Doc Rivers expected everyone to get a good night’s sleep

Following Saturday night’s loss in South Beach to the Miami Heat, Doc Rivers spoke with the media and let them know that the Sixers would be staying in Miami for the night, rather than flying back to Philadelphia.
Rivers stated that he expected the team to get a good nights sleep while in Miami and that the team would travel back north the the following day. (lol).
Doc Rivers on Staying in Miami
“We’re going to stay overnight, which is probably the worst coaching decision ever. I’m sure they’re going right to bed tonight in Miami.”
Obviously, Rivers said that jokingly, but the video is even more funny given the fact that there were Instagram videos released shortly after the game against the Heat with Sixers players out in South Beach enjoying themselves.

Also, that’s far from your worst coaching decision, Doc, but we won’t get into that now.
Anyways, I love it. Smart move by Doc Rivers and the 76ers coaching staff. Even though the weather was a little bit better than it has been over the past few months in Philly over the weekend, this is honestly the worst time of the year in the city of Brotherly Love.
Everything is wet, gray, and miserable. Stay in Miami as long as possible. Let the Sixers enjoy themselves. After half of a season where everything was miserable thanks to Ben Simmons, the team deserves an extra day in nice weather down in Miami.
After Harden was ruled out over the weekend, that’s exactly what I suggested as well. Let all the starters rest and throw the entire bench on the court against the East-leading Miami Heat instead. Chalk the game up as a loss and just have a mini-vacation in Miami for the weekend.
After I posted the Harden, Niang, and Maxey article, people were quick to point out that they were just enjoying a steak dinner at Papi Steaks and that it wasn’t a “crazy night out” in Miami.
Just take a second and ask yourself the following question:
Do you think you go out to a steak dinner like this and then just go back to hotel after?
Of course, the answer is no.
Good on the Sixers for getting all banged up in Miami, using the plane ride back to Philly yesterday as a time to rest, and just like that, we’re back in action tonight against the Chicago Bulls.
