Nick Sirianni lies to the media, says Derek Barnett has a “high football IQ”

Nick Sirianni is unbelievable. NFL owners and coaches are meeting this week and during media availability, Sirianni talked with reporters about the Eagles bringing back Derek Barnett.
Barnett is back with the Eagles on a two-year deal that is technically a one-year contract, much like the contracts Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox signed earlier this offseason.
When asked about what Barnett brings to the team, this is what Sirianni had to say.
“Derek Barnett is everything that embodies what we want in the characteristics of a player. He’s tough. He’s competitive, he’s got high football IQ, he’s got high character, he loves football. And I love Derek Barnett.”
Well that’s just a flat-out lie, coach. But you know that.
This is what Sirianni said last season when he didn’t think the cameras were looking at him.
Listen, I get you have to speak highly of a player you just signed, but something has got to give here. Barnett is the king of committing the most bone-headed penalties in Eagles history. For reference, he has 26 penalties during his time in Philadelphia and just 21.5 sacks.
Maybe instead of saying how much you love Barnett and how great of a football IQ that he has, you go the other route and say Derek Barnett is a talented player, but definitely needs to work on some things and we’re excited to have him back and improve every day?
Sirianni is a player’s coach, and now he’s showing he’ll go as far as to lie to the media’s face to please his team. Maybe with the addition of Haason Reddick and the return of Brandon Graham, Barnett will do better as a role player, but it’ll make the penalties far more noticeable.
