Phillies drop third straight, lose to Rockies 6-5

The Phillies dropped their third straight game and second straight to the Rockies 6-5 on Tuesday night at Coors Field.
This team has ZERO juice. There must be something in the water at Citizens Bank Park because this team has been been asleep and devoid of energy for a few years now. The Phillies have no fight at the moment and are grounding into more double plays than scoring runs.
CJ Cron had four RBI, three of those came in the Rockies’ big seventh inning that included the Phillies absolutely getting screwed by the home plate umpire. Seranthony Dominguez threw a clear strike on a 2-2 count to Charlie Blackmon that was called a ball.
The missed call turned out to to be the defining moment of the game, as two batters later Cron hit the game winning 3-run home run off Jerurys Familia. Speaking of Jeruys Familia, I would appreciate if our relievers weren’t guys that were selling suits less than a year ago. Can we please get some viable bullpen arms? I know it’s unlikely right now but cmon man.
Kyle Schwarber had 3 RBI including a home run. Bryce Harper and Matt Vierling provided the rest of the offense driving in one run a piece.
The Phillies (4-8) are now 5 GB of the division leading New York Mets and have lost 7 of 8 games since beginning the season 3-1.
They are 1-5 on the road.
Kyle Gibson pitched well again on Tuesday night notching a quality start and allowing three earned runs in six innings of work. However, the fourth inning really hurt Gibson, as he allowed four of his six hits (and mixed in a walk) and all three runs in the frame. Gibson has been solid as the fifth starter so far this season pitching to a 3.57 ERA.
Joe Girardi said in his post game presser ‘we have to find a way to get a win tomorrow, we have to do whatever it takes’
Is Joe Giardi on the hot seat ?
Rockies (8-3) Beat Phillies (4-8)
- Winning Pitcher: Justin Lawrence
- Losing Pitcher: Seranthony Dominguez (1-1)
- Save: Daniel Bard (5)
Rhys Hoskins got the party started early on, lumbering for a triple, in spite of the high-elevation and low oxygen trying to hold the big boy back.
The next batter, Bryce Harper, flared this RBI single into left field to score Rhys and put the Phillies up 1-0.
Kyle Gibson cruised through the first inning allowing no hits and throwing a total of 10 pitches.
Didi Gregorius took this 91 mph sinker from Kyle Freeland directly off his left hand. Gregorius initially remained in the game but was later replaced with what the Phillies are calling a ‘left-hand contusion‘.
It would be a real hit to the Phillies depth to lose Didi, who has had a nice start to the season slashing .286/.342/.371.
Matt Vierling scored Alec Bohm from second base with this RBI single after Bohm reached on a reached on a walk.
Vierling has recorded a hit in three of the last four games and looks to be finding his way out of the early season slump that has him hitting only .192.
2-0 Phillies
C.J. Cron brought in Charlie Blackmon with a sac fly to put the Rockies on the scoreboard in the fourth inning.
2-1 Phillies
After Alec Bohm made a terrible throw to Jean Segura killing any chance at a double play, the Rockies rallied with two outs and Randal Grichuk tied the game up at two with this RBI single up the middle.
2-2
Elias Diaz continued the destruction of the Phillies with two outs in the fourth inning with this RBI single into centerfield.
3-2 Rockies
When the Phillies signed Kyle Schwarber, my good friend and co-host of The Misery Report podcast, asked if Phillies fans knew that Schwarber was a .230 career hitter. Well, Phillies fans are beginning to take notice and Schwaber has quickly found himself on the early season shit-list.
Schwarber silenced the critics with this two run home run to the opposite field that just barely made its way over the outfield fence.
4-3 Phillies
Seranthony Dominguez was dealing in the seventh inning, when home umpire Paul Emmel called a clear strike three on the corner a ball. That’s all the life the Rockies needed as Charlie Blackmon drew the walk and then Kris Bryant reached safely on an infield single.
Jeurys Familia came for relief of Seranthony Dominguez and promptly allowed this three run bomb to C.J. Cron to give the Rockies the lead..
Tom McCarthy muttered ‘thats a shame’ as the ball traveled over the left field fence..
6-4 Rockies
Kyle Schwarber recorded his third RBI of the night and beat the shift to score JT Realmuto.
Anyone else feel like JT is perpetually on base?
Realmuto was 3-4, 2 R tonight and is quietly slashing .333/.378/.452 to begin the season.
6-5 Rockies
