Game 3 Preview: Will the Phillies ever win a baseball game?

The Philadelphia Phillies look to avoid a 1-6 road trip this afternoon, as Zach Eflin takes the mound in Colorado against the Rockies. The baseball Gods need to show up today and put an end to the miserable start of the 2022 MLB season here in Philadelphia.
There’s an old saying that you never judge a baseball team in April but holy hell, the Phillies are making it tough not to as they continue to find new ways to lose games each night. The Phillies have now lost three in a row, seven out of their last eight, and hold the last place spot in the NL East, five games behind the New York Mets.
Nightmare fuel.
Last night started out great, with Rhys Hoskins tripling in the first and Bryce Harper notching an RBI single to give the Fightins an early lead. Things were finally moving in the right direction with Matt Vierling snapping out of his early-season slump to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
From there, the Rockies took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, only for Kyle Schwarber to help reclaim the lead yet again for the Phillies with a two run opposite field home run.

Then, the Phillies bullpen screwed everything up. After being one of the few positives about the Phillies to start the year, Jeurys Familia let up an absolute tank shot to CJ Cron that would end up being the game-winner in the 7th.
Schwarber would knock in another RBI in the 8th, but the team fell just short in the end.
Something has to give. Please.
I can’t stress this enough…April baseball doesn’t shouldn’t matter.
The Phillies NEED to find some consistency and statistical history shows that they will eventually do just that, but let’s make it happen sooner than later. Win the last game and we’ll forget about this miserable road trip and look ahead to the Brewers series.
Mickey Moniak will be back in center in a few weeks and hopefully, Joe Girardi will start to put together a consistent lineup. Let’s stop throwing darts with names on them at his lineup card.
FOX Bet Promos
- Kyle Schwarber HR and Phillies Win +450
- Kyle Schwarber to record a run and the Phillies win +150
- Bryce Harper to record a run and the Phillies win +145
Kyle Schwarber is 5 for 12 in his career vs German Marquez, with a home run and 2 RBIs in 12 plate appearances. Schwarber’s starting to find his bat again, and even his strikeout last night before the bomb looked good. I’m hammering the Schwarber comeback.
Final Pick: Kyle Schwarber HR and Phillies Win +450

Tonight’s Pitching Matchup
Zach Eflin will get the ball for the team today at 3:10, making his third start of the season. Eflin hasn’t crossed the four-inning mark yet this season, allowing eight hits, four earned runs, and striking out seven in his first two games. Eflin didn’t have a normal offseason, as he was recovering from right knee surgery.
German Marquez will get the ball for the Colorado Rockies. Marquez has thrown two games prior to today, with wins in both games. His first start of the year was dominant, as he threw seven strong innings against the powerhouse Dodgers, allowing just three hits and one earned run.

Phillies Starting Lineup
Prediction
Listen. My predictions have been wrong recently, but that’s just because the Phillies stink. Am I going to bet against my own team? Hell no. Kyle Schwarber is starting to find his bat again, and I think he leads the team to a win today.
The Phillies need to set the tone today. It’s a big day for Philadelphia, as the Sixers take on the fraudulent Raptors and crybaby Nick Nurse tonight at 8:00.
I mean cmon. The Phillies have to win, Drew Smith pulled a Zach Eflin card out of a Topps pack today.
Final Pick: Phillies ML + Sixers ML. We ride.
