Injury Update: Zack Wheeler hits the shelf for at least another week with lingering elbow soreness

The Philadelphia Phillies have just extended Zack Wheeler’s return timeline.
Wheeler was placed on the injured list retroactive to August 22nd due to tendinitis in his right forearm. He did receive an MRI at the time, and we later found out that there was no structural damage.
Rob Thomson: Zack Wheeler Concern at Zero
However, earlier today, Wheeler’s timeline for a return to the Phillies rotation has been extended after he continued to feel soreness in his right elbow. Rob Thomson addressed the media today and reiterated that his concern level for Wheeler remains at “zero”.
Regardless, the Phillies are pumping the breaks and waiting another week until Wheeler attempts to throw again. This season, Wheeler has pitched great, racking up 11 wins with a 3.07 ERA and 148 strikeouts over 138 innings.
I’m all for giving Wheeler as much time as he needs over the next few weeks to ensure that he enters the playoffs healthy and ready to pitch at full strength in game one of the Wild Card.
Tonight, the Phillies will open up a three game series against the San Francisco Giants.
Kyle Gibson will be on the mound.
