Mick Abel named Eastern League Player of the Week following dominant performance against the Hartford Yard Goats

Every single day, we get more positive news coming out of the Phillies minor league system regarding their top three pitching prospects in Andrew Painter, Griff McGarry, and Mick Abel.

In today’s edition, we are focusing on Mick Abel, who was just named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week after a dominant performance against the Hartford Yard Goats.

Since getting promoted from High-A to Double-A, Abel has thrown 13.2 innings and holds a 3.29 ERA. He has struck out 18 batters and walked seven. Opponents are slashing just .204/.328/.408. 

In his most recent outing, Abel tossed an absolute gem against the Yard Goats, throwing five scoreless innings allowing just one hit, and three walks, while striking out eight.

45 of Abel’s 68 pitches were for strikes.
