Phillies #4 prospect Griff McGarry scratched from his start tonight in Double-A

Phillies pitching prospect Griff McGarry was scratched from his AA start tonight and will instead come out of the bullpen.
A lot of rumors have been flying around over the last few weeks about the Phillies potentially bringing up McGarry as a high-velocity bullpen piece for the playoffs. Griff has had a fantastic season in High-A and AA, totaling a 3.26 ERA in 77 total innings.
McGarry has thrown 7 starts with Reading after being promoted from High-A back on July 2nd and has logged just a 2.35 ERA and a 1.043 WHIP in those starts. McGarry has walked 19 while striking out 30 and has shown multiple signs of his arm being ready to face Major League pitching.
Griff McGarry has always been a starter, and that’s what he’ll be in the future for the Phillies organization. But with the Phillies’ current 1-2-3 punch of Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Ranger Suarez ready to go in the playoffs, the Phillies could most definitely use McGarry as a multiple-inning bullpen guy in October.
Nothing is set in stone, and nothing will be announced just yet if it happens. The Phillies did just trade for Vinny Nittoli yesterday and have elevated him and Donny Sands to the major league roster, as it expanded to 28 from 26.
Griff McGarry is coming, along with Red October.
