Preview: Phillies make a roster move ahead of today’s matinee, look to secure series win against Atlanta at 1:05

The Philadelphia Phillies take the field at Citizens Bank Park one last time in the 2022 regular season, looking to secure a crucial series win against the Atlanta Braves. Kyle Gibson (10-7, 4.71 ERA) takes the hill for Philly, going up against Charlie Morton (9-6, 4.09 ERA).
Phillies Roster Moves
Ahead of today’s matchup, the Phillies selected the contract of RHP Chris Devenski, who will wear #47.
As a corresponding move, left-handed reliever Brad Hand was placed on the 15-day IL with left elbow tendinitis (retro to 9/22). INF Johan Camargo was designated for assignment.

With yesterday’s 6-3 loss, the Phillies are back in the 3rd Wild Card spot, with a 1.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers (2.5 with tiebreaker).
Ronald Acuña Jr. is out for the fourth consecutive game with a back strain.
The Magic Number is 9 with 11 games to play.
Bailey Falter got roughed up, allowing six earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched. Kyle Wright earned his 20th win of the season for Atlanta, and the Phillies didn’t score a run til the 6th inning.
Bryce Harper did get his name back on the scoresheet, cracking a home run to left field to open up the scoring for the Fightins. Getting Harper back on track is key for the end of the Phillies’ regular season, as the star has hit just .157/.259/.329 in September with 26 strikeouts.
Kyle Gibson vs. Charlie Morton
Kyle Gibson takes the hill coming off the worst start of his season, allowing seven earned runs and 123 hits in just 5 innings while striking out just 3. After a 2.30 ERA month of August for Gibby, his September ERA is now up to 9.68. Charlie Morton is 9-6 on the year with a 4.09 ERA, holding a 5.38 ERA on the road with a 3-5 record.
