Philadelphia Union defeat FC Cincinnati to punch ticket to Eastern Conference Finals- celebrate with “Dancing on my Own”

The Philadelphia Union are dancing to the MLS Eastern Conference finals following a convincing 1-0 win against FC Cincinnati.
It was no cakewalk. FC Cincinnati put the screws to the Union in the first half defensively, and held the number one seed scoreless until the 59th minute. That’s when Leon Flach was finally able to break through, sending one to the back of the net to give the Union a 1-0 advantage.

That goal was all the Union would need and we should all be thankful that Subaru Park didn’t collapse into the Delaware River because that place was going INSANE.

2022 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake saw to that with several dramatic saves. Blake led the MLS in shutouts this year, and he provided another against FC Cincinnati.

The Union are now advancing the Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive year. They celebrated their victory by pumping “Dancing on my own” through the sound system in Subaru Park in Chester, a song that is VERY familiar for all Philadelphia Phillies fans currently losing their minds in the midst of a Red October for the first time in 11 years down in South Philadelphia.
The song has become an anthem for the Phillies in their postseason run and it’s a fun bit of solidarity between the two teams to see the song get used.
Side Note: Anybody complaining about the Union copying the Phillies here is being a dope. It’s not like they played it in their locker room, they just played it on the speakers as people collected their belongings and headed for the exits after another convincing win.
The Philadelphia Union will face the winner of CF Montreal and New York FC on October 30th for the right to play in the MLS Cup Final.
