Victorious! Philadelphia Union defeat NYCFC 3-1, punch ticket to MLS Cup

The Philadelphia Union were on full display in front of a sold out Subaru Park as they defeated NYCFC 3-1 punching their tickets to Los Angeles for the MLS Cup.
NYCFC controlled possession for the majority of the game but ultimately the Union proved to be too much for their foes from New York. The Union had several early opportunities to score. At 15’ Daniel Gazdag appeared to score a go ahead goal, but it was called offside.
The Union and NYCFC traded opportunities over the rest of the first half and while NYCFC controlled possession but generated few genuine scoring threats. Whenever they did, Andre Blake was there. They went into the half tied at 0-0 In the second half of the game, NYCFC kept up their pressure. Then Maxi Moralez found the back of the net at 56’ to put NYCFC ahead 1-0.
From there, everything started to change and for me and many others watching the match from home, it’s hard to not think this save from Andre Blake completely shifted the momentum in the Union’s favor.

It was a thoroughly dominant second half by the Union. NYCFC simply could not find an answer to the firepower of Philly. The defending MLS champs are now the former MLS champs. The Philadelphia Union march onward.
The Philadelphia Union will now face off against Los Angeles FC for the right to hoist the MLS Cup on Saturday night.
