AJ Brown comes out against danger of turf fields, joins countless athletes
Eagles wideout AJ Brown has had enough of turf fields. The fan-favorite joined the growing movement against artificial surfaces, which has hit a fever pitch after some very unfortunate non-contact injuries this season.
AJ Brown left nothing up to interpretation:
Anyone who disagrees with this is either braindead or would be financially responsible for replacing the artifical fields with grass.
Take a look at soccer, turf fields are not even considered an option for the world’s top leagues because of the high risk of knee injuries. Of course, our soccer leagues stateside do not have the mandate, and the US Women’s National Team was forced to play on them as recently as a couple years ago.
US Soccer only succumbed in 2020 because of immense protest from those players. It looks like NFL players may be ready to take that stand as well.
You can put on your American suspenders and look down condescendingly at “soft Europeans,” but doing so would show how stupid and uninformed you truly are, so I would not recommend doing so. AstroTurf is destructive to athletes’ bodies both during and after their careers are done.
It’s remarkable that there is any debate about this at all. It is so typically American that we stare an easily fixable problem in the face and do pretty much fuck-all.
Stars would stay on the field, generating more money for the league than they would on IR, and yet there’s still opposition to the concept. It truly blows my mind.
