NFL All-Decade left tackle Joe Staley calls out NFC East defender after 49ers loss

The Eagles‘ dominant victory over San Francisco in the NFC Championship sent players and fans spiraling into pure frustration. From Dre Greenlaw’s “peanut haymaking” Kenneth Gainwell to Trent Williams body slamming K’Von Wallace, the 49ers players’ outrage got the best of them.
For those watching at home or Cabo, it provided a solid opportunity to throw a few jabs at San Francisco, and Giants’ rookie defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux tossed in his two cents.
The fifth overall pick in last year’s draft tossed out a simple joke, given the game’s circumstances. Former 49ers’ left tackle for 13 seasons and member of the 2010s NFL All-Decade team, Joe Staley, furthered the 49ers players’ and fans’ frustration by putting the young pup in his place.
Joe Staley
Woo-hoo! Those are some fighting words from the six-time pro bowler about a rookie he’s never faced who’s just scratching the surface of his potential. I found myself leaning closer to Kayvon’s side to start this beef until he dropped Gen Z’s mic drop line: “I wasn’t even born yet.”
Kayvon, you blew it!! Joe Staley is one of the most prolific offensive tackles in NFL history and retired only three years before the Giants drafted Thibodeaux. Saying “Who are you?” as a comeback to Joe Staley as an NFL defensive end either shows you have zero awareness of the sport’s history or you are just a troll.
I think the Giants’ rookie is an elite troll here, but I definitely can see a scenario where Kayvon Thibodeaux has no clue who Joe Staley is or what he means to the San Francisco 49ers. Trolling or not, Staley goes straight for Thibodeaux’s jugular by bringing up his underwhelming rookie stats.
Damn! As much as Kayvon tried to keep this light-hearted poking of the bear, Joe Staley did not take it that way. Any slander against his former team would be met with fire and fury, and I love that. I imagine any player on this current Eagles’ roster doing the same thing if some rookie started running his mouth.
It wasn’t just a current Giants’ player that could get it last night. Former kicker Lawrence Tynes wanted in on the action and asked to see Joe Staley’s conference championship rings. Staley’s response was swift and to the point.
And boom goes the dynamite. Three-word knockout of Lawrence Tynes.
As for his Twitter battle with Kayvon, some may say that’s a win for Thibodeaux’s troll expertise. Some may say Joe Staley took a simple joke too far, but got the better of the Giants edge rusher in the end. I believe both are true, but I’m done praising anyone’s “troll abilities” unless Joel Hans Embiid is the one doing it.
