Eagles Rumors: Nick Sirianni could look to Super Bowl opponent for potential offensive coordinator replacement

Although all signs point towards the Philadelphia Eagles promoting quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson to fill their vacant offensive coordinator position, another interesting name has been thrown into the hat.
Just days after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, Kansas Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has reportedly taken calls for other vacant OC positions. On Wednesday, he interviewed for the Washington Commanders OC job and is expected to interview for more jobs in the coming days.
CBS Sports NFL Inside Josina Anderson noted on Tuesday that Bieniemy could be a good fit for Philly, with a KC rematch on the horizon and his experience under the best offensive mind in the game today.
Bieniemy could make sense for the Eagles.
On the surface, this feels like a lateral move for Bieniemy – if not a flatout downgrade. Why leave Andy Reid’s side after so much success?
The reality is, Bieniemy is at his wits end in Kansas City. We’ve gone through numerous coaching cycles where his name has been tossed around as a head coaching candidate. Yet, he hasn’t gotten any offers. One aspect that plays a huge role in that circumstance is Reid himself, who calls plays for KC and gets the majority of the credit for their offensive success.
Joining Philadelphia, where Bieniemy will almost certainly be given play calling duties, could be huge for the OC’s chances at a head coaching job in the future. The Eagles last OC, Shane Steichen, had one prolific year as the team’s offensive coordinator and has already landed a head coaching gig.
That has to be alluring for Bieniemy, who’s made it clear that he wants to be a head coach in the NFL eventually.
If the Eagles decide to look outside their organization for a new play caller, keep an eye on Bieniemy.
