Eagles Buzz: Top RB prospect comes to Philadelphia for pre-draft visit

If you were sold on the Philadelphia Eagles not selecting a running back in the first-round of April’s NFL Draft, you may want to reconsider your position.
Monday night, the consensus No. 1 RB prospect, Texas’ Bijan Robinson, snapped a pic of Lincoln Financial Field for his Instagram story. Almost instantly, Eagles Twitter went into a frenzy.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo later confirmed that Robinson was indeed in Philly for a pre-draft visit with the Eagles’ brass.

Even though the Eagles are hosting the Texas standout for a visit, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re eyeing him with one of their first-round picks. Every team is allowed to host 30 pre-draft visits with prospects leading up to draft night. More than likely, this is just Howie and Co. doing their due diligence.
But, it is worth noting that Robinson is considered by many to be a generational talent at the position. Despite Howie’s team building philosophy of never selecting a RB in the first-round, perhaps he would be willing to make an exception for a talent like Robinson.
Ever since he was reinstated as the GM following the firing of Chip Kelly, Roseman’s draft day approach has relied heavily on the ‘best player available’ mantra. If available at tenth overall, there’s a solid chance Robinson is the best player on the board. Even if he plays a devalued position.
It’s going to be very interesting to see how the Eagles approach the draft this year. Though the team does have some clear needs at safety and linebacker, I doubt Roseman will address either position in the first-round. They’re either going to stick to their guns and fill up the trenches, or they’ll surprise us all and go with a wildcard.
Could Robinson be that wildcard? It would be pretty surprising, but in a good way. Because like all of you, I too daydream of a Jalen Hurts/Bijan Robinson backfield. Not to mention a little Rashaad Penny sprinkled on top, with a splash of Kenny G and Boston Scott on the side. Sounds pretty neat to me.
I’m excited to see what Howie has up his sleeve.
