Shocker: Howie Roseman comes in at No. 1 on NFL.com’s GM power rankings

No surprises here. On Thursday, NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal dropped his NFL GM Power Rankings and of course, Philly’s own Howie Roseman found himself in the top spot.

After his one-year hiatus during the tumultuous end of the Chip Kelly era, Howie Roseman completely reinvented himself as a general manager. In just two years time, he constructed a Super Bowl winning roster. Five years later, Howie put together another championship caliber team, this time with a different quarterback and head coach. The Eagles became the only team to reach two Super Bowls in a five-year span with a different QB/HC combo – thanks in large part to the savvy team building of Roseman.
There’s a reason we call the offseason ‘Howie SZN’ around here. Even when the team seems to be set in stone, Roseman always finds ways to improve it. Last offseason, we saw the GM snag James Bradberry and CJ Gardner-Johnson right before the start of the season. Both players played an integral part in the team’s success in 2022.
He isn’t perfect, however. No GM is. Drafting Andre Dillard and Jalen Reagor in the first-round of the NFL Draft is certainly a blemish on his resume, but Howie has really turned a corner in his drafting in recent years.
Take the 2021 NFL Draft as an example. Roseman managed to draft four key contributors from that class – WR DeVonta Smith, LG Landon Dickerson, DT Milton Williams, and RB Kenneth Gainwell. Last year’s top-three picks (Jordan Davis, Cam Jurgens, and Nakobe Dean) all essentially had redshirt seasons as rookies, but all three are primed to be starters in 2023.
Simply put, there isn’t a GM in the NFL that does it better than Howie Roseman. From drafting to cap management, Howie is a man amongst boys.
He’s had his ups and downs in this city, but I think speak for everyone when I say I’m eternally grateful to have him as the Eagles GM.
