Brian Dawkins sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” in a rather interesting fashion

Eagles legend Brian Dawkins made his way to Citizens Bank Park for Strike Out the Stigma Night, which focused on mental health in sports. While Weapon X’s presence at a Phillies game was enough of a gift for the fans, the organization got him to sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” in the seventh inning.

While it was a powerful performance, Brian Dawkins had an… avant-garde approach to the ballpark classic:

I’m not going to sit here and critique one of the greatest Eagles of all time, but I will say that performance had, at best, a casual relationship with the concept of tempo. I don’t care who you are, as The Liberty Line’s resident music critic, I can’t let it slide without at least mentioning it.

Then again, as a Hall of Famer and generally Cool Dude, Brian Dawkins has ascended beyond the cultural norms of us peasants. He need not conform to the tempo the organist set for him. This is his moment.

We may see a somewhat clumsy rendition of a classic tune, but it could be much deeper than that. Dawkins is an intellectual guy; there’s no telling if he approached it from a Jeremy Strong level of perception.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
