NFL Rumors: ESPN names one final player the Eagles should sign this offseason

If you were on Eagles Twitter back in 2020, then you’ll likely remember the “Yannick Ngakoue Watch.”
The disgruntled defensive end wanted out of Jacksonville and Philadelphia was listed as a prime destination for his services. Despite Ngakoue’s teases, a trade to the Eagles never materialized and he was eventually dealt to Minnesota.
Three years later, Philly may have another chance.
Eagles GM Howie Roseman is never satisfied with the roster, regardless of how much talent lives on it. Last offseason, Roseman strengthened an apparent weakness by trading for boisterous DB CJ Gardner-Johnson just days before opening week. A similar move could be on the horizon.
“We don’t think we’re complete in any way, shape, or form,” GM Howie Roseman stated in April. “We’re always looking to improve.”

In a recent piece detailing roster moves that each team should make this offseason, ESPN Insider Field Yates suggests the Eagles sign Ngakoue as an added reinforcement along the defensive line:
“I know the Eagles have a premiere pass rush and used their second first-round pick on Nolan Smith to further that, but let’s get greedy as it pertains to a top Super Bowl contender.
Waves of depth are essential for a pass rush in the NFL, and Ngakoue is a sack specialist who can provide Philly what it felt Robert Quinn would bring when it acquired him last offseason.
Ngakoue won’t exactly come cheap, but do you think I’m worried about the Eagles finding a way to make a move work under the salary cap? He had 9.5 sacks and 29 pressures last season with the Colts.”
The Eagles continued their long-standing philosophy of building inside-out by selecting Georgia stars Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith in April’s draft. They already deploy a rotation featuring Haason Reddick, Josh Sweat, and Brandon Graham, so bringing in Ngakoue would be a luxury move — but it’s one they can afford.
Ngakoue, who’s still just 28 years old despite playing with five teams, has compiled 65.0 sacks, 135 QB hits, and 21 forced fumbles across his seven-year career.
