WATCH: Shohei Ohtani homers in three straight at-bats, Matt Chapman questions why the Blue Jays pitched to him in the first place

With each passing night in Major League Baseball, questioning whether or not Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani is human seems to feel a little less-crazy.
On Thursday night, Ohtani hit two home runs in the Angels’ 11-4 win over the Detroit Tigers. Last night, he hit his third consecutive home run against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Shohei Ohtani Homers in Third Straight At-Bat
It is somewhat interesting that when the MLB and really any tweet is sent about Shohei Ohtani, everyone leaves out the part that the Los Angeles Angels lost last night to the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1.
Obviously, that’s beyond the point for this post specifically, because Ohtani did hit a home run in his third straight at-bat but definitely worth mentioning.
At this point, I’m starting to believe that Major League Baseball has either restricted teams from giving Shohei Ohtani the “Barry Bonds Treatment” by simply not pitching to him and walking him every at-bat or that Ohtani is the “non-human” life that the United States congress was discussing earlier this week.
I really don’t see any other option between the two above.
Even last night, Toronto Blue Jays’ Matt Chapman lost his mind in the dugout last night questioning why the Blue Jays would even pitch to Ohtani because “he’s the only fucking guy on the team that can hit.”
Matt Chapman fuming over Blue Jays pitching to Shohei Ohtani
Seems like a fair question.
With Mike Trout on the injured list and only appearing in 81 games so far this season, Ohtani is the clear outlier for the Angels at the plate. He’s batting .301 on the season with a 1.077 OPS.
Ohtani has 116 hits, 16 doubles, 7 triples, 39 home runs, and 81 RBI in 102 games this season. That is 36 more hits, 21 more home runs, 38 more RBI than anyone else on the Angels roster in 2023.
Earlier in the week, the Angels basically notified the MLB that they wouldn’t be trading Ohtani at the deadline, when they acquired starting pitcher Lucas Giolito from the Chicago White Sox.
At 54-50 on the season, the Angels are just 4 games out of an American League Wild Card spot and are now focused in making a run at the postseason, which could be the deciding factor on Ohtani returning to the Angels next year, or signing what is certainly going to be the largest contract in MLB history elsewhere this offseason.
