Orioles suspend announcer Kevin Brown for pointing out the team used to suck during a broadcast
The Baltimore Orioles have reportedly suspended play-by-by announcer Kevin Brown indefinitely for comments about the team’s record in previous years on a recent broadcast. If that lead takes you aback, you’re not alone.

Normally when you see an announcer suspended, it’s for saying something egregiously racist, sexist, or homophobic. When I first saw the video, I didn’t know what he was suspended for. And when it ended, I had to replay it, thinking I missed it.
Nope. That’s literally all this is about.
Let’s be honest, the Orioles sucked for quite a while there, and if anything, his comments showed how greatly the team has improved. How an organization sees highlighting and celebrating their recent run of form as suspension-worthy is absurd to me.
Imagine if our teams acted that way in Philadelphia. Marc Zumoff would be an enemy of the state for referencing The Process-era Sixers. Hell, Tom McCarthy would’ve been sent to the Gulag three years ago.
I tuned in to a recent Orioles broadcast and was met with their new play-by-play announcer. Needless to say, the organization won’t need to worry about this one bringing up something even remotely negative about the team.
It’s disappointing that the Orioles – one of the most fun teams in baseball this season – have managed to sully their reputation with something so petty and wholly unreasonable. Not the late-season storyline we hoped for.
Kevin Brown’s future is still in limbo, but his fellow announcers around the league are furious with the Orioles’ decision. Michael Kay and Gary Cohen have led the charge on their broadcasts, and I’m sure the rest of the league’s commentators are right there with them.
Free Kevin Brown. The people demand it.
