Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reveals his team wanted to select Eagles QB Jalen Hurts during 2020 NFL Draft

With the exception of a few franchises, nearly every team in the NFL would probably trade their quarterback for Jalen Hurts. Of course, that includes the Dallas Cowboys.
While he didn’t explicitly state he’d like to replace Dak Prescott with Hurts, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones alluded to that sentiment over the weekend, revealing that his team would have selected Hurts had he fallen to them in the 2020 NFL Draft.
When speaking about his team’s recent trade for QB Trey Lance, Jerry Jones told reporters that they wanted to draft a certain “Philadelphia Eagles quarterback” a few years back.

Jones didn’t mention Jalen hurts by name here, but it’s pretty obvious that’s who he’s talking about.
The funny thing is, the Cowboys could have easily snagged Hurts if they actually wanted him. Hurts was selected 53rd overall by the Birds, Dallas had the 51st overall selection in 2020. Instead, they went with CB Trevon Diggs.
Nevertheless, the recent trade for Lance speaks to the uncertainty the Cowboys organization may have with their current signal caller. Prescott led the league in interceptions (15) last year despite only starting 12 games.
Dak has two more years remaining on his contract, so unless he steps up and improves in 2023, we could see a new gunslinger under center in Dallas in 2024.
