Report: Eagles working out free-agent CB following Avonte Maddox injury

The Eagles have lost both of their top nickel corners just two weeks into the season.
Third-year CB Zech McPhearson will miss the regular season after suffering a torn Achilles in August, while Avonte Maddox is out indefinitely following surgery to repair a torn pec. McPhearson assumed backup nickel duties behind Maddox during training camp.
First-year player Mario Goodrich got his first extensive NFL action in relief of Maddox against Minnesota, but he allowed six receptions on six targets for 60 yards and a TD. Despite Nick Sirianni voicing confidence in his in-house replacements, Philadelphia is reportedly looking into other options.
First reported by NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Eagles are working out former Bengals, Commanders DB William Jackosn III.

Jackson, 30, primarily plays on the outside, only having 203 career snaps in the slot. The move would allow James Bradberry to share reps at nickel, however, as he spent some time there this summer.
The former first-round pick was traded from Washington to Pittsburgh during the 2022 season, but a back injury kept him out for the year. Jackson stated in May that he’s 100% healthy and ready to contribute.
“I’m feeling great, I’m just feeling really motivated,” Jackson told KPRC 2. “All the doubters, I want to literally come out and show what I can do. I’m just using it as motivation, basically all the critics, all the people who had something negative to say. I’m just ready to come out this year and show them what I can do.”
Jackson runs 4.37 40-time and has recorded 205 tackles, 51 passes defended, and five interceptions across his six-year career.
