Jalen Hurts explains his ‘commitment’ quote after Eagles loss to Seattle
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had the city buzzing after Monday’s contest against the Seahawks. But not in a good way, and the chatter surrounding the QB was actually focused on his comments after the game, not so much his performance on the field (which was also quite awful).
Hurts remarked that he didn’t believe the team was “committed” enough during his post-game presser. He didn’t really specify what he meant by it, or what exactly the teams wasn’t committed enough to, despite reporters prying to try and get an answer.
On Thursday when Hurts met with the media again, he was of course asked about the comments. This time, he elaborated a bit.

“What I’m saying is everything starts with me. I set the tone. I’m the temperature,” Jalen Hurts explained to reporters. “I set the temperature for the room, I set all of that. I’m challenging myself to be better in all aspects. I know the standard I hold myself to. I put that standard out there.
“The reality is everyone else is held to that standard, too. The only ones that matters is my teammates. The only one that matters is my coaches. … Just challenging myself to be everything I need to be for this team. It takes true togetherness to win, and winning is hard to do. You’ve got to accept the challenges of what comes with that.”
So, I guess he wasn’t actually trying to throw anyone under the bus? I don’t know, it’s impossible to know what Jalen Hurts is actually saying half of the time because he speaks in riddles. From what I can gather, he’s just shouldering the blame for where the team is right now, which is obviously what you want to see your franchise guy do.
But, what would be even better from our franchise quarterback, is more consistent play on the field. At the end of the day, ‘It’s on me to fix this,’ doesn’t really work for me unless the product on the field is actually better. All the rah-rah shit only works when the team is winning.
It’s obviously not all Jalen Hurts’ fault; I tend to blame the coaching more than anything. Nevertheless, there are certainly things he needs to improve on moving forward this season. Otherwise, it’s going to be an early exit from the postseason in four weeks.
