Rest The Starters: 17 players have suffered season-ending injuries at MetLife since 2020
According to the New York Times, the Eagles have a 17% chance of winning the NFC East this weekend.
Philadelphia needs a win on Sunday against the Giants and a Dallas loss at Washington to clinch the division and the No. 2 seed. With a slim chance of the Cowboys losing, is playing your starters worth the risk for Nick Sirianni?
If the game was anywhere else but MetLife Stadium, I’d say sure. NFL players have frequently criticized artificial turf, but none has come under fire like MetLife.
Since 2020, when the new turf was installed, 17 players have suffered season-ending injuries at that fateful stadium:
- DT Solomon Thomas — Torn ACL (2020)
- DE Nick Bosa — Torn ACL (2020)
- OT Matt Peart — Torn ACL (2021)
- OL Jonotthan Harrison — Achillies (2021)
- LB T.J. Brunson — Torn ACL (2021)
- CB Rodarius Williams — Torn ACL (2021)
- OL Shane Lemieux — Patellar Tendon (2021)
- TE Levine Toilolo — Torn ACL (2021)
- S Jabrill Peppers — Torn ACL (2021)
- LB Blake Martinez — Torn ACL (2021)
- CB Aaron Robinson — Torn ACL (2022)
- WR Wan’Dale Robinson — Torn ACL (2022)
- WR Sterling Shepard — Torn ACL (2022)
- OL Marcu McKethan — Torn ACL (2022)
- LB Darrian Beavers — Torn ACL (2022)
- QB Aaron Rodgers — Achilles (2023)
- LB Jaelan Phillips — Achillies (2023)
The Eagles can’t afford any substantial injuries ahead of the playoffs; Darius Slay and DeVonta Smith are already dealing with knee and ankle injuries, respectively.
I understand the mindset of needing to find momentum in preparation for the postseason, but I wouldn’t risk it — especially if the Dallas vs. Washington game gets out of hand early.
Treat this week as bye and go into Wild Card weekend healthy.
One seeds are locked up and there's still a lot of playoff seeds up for grabs.
