Buffalo Bills run a fake punt down 3 points in the 4th quarter with their season on the line to…DAMAR HAMLIN?!
The Buffalo Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs last night in the AFC Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs 27-24.
There were several plays that were ultimately costly for the Bills last night, including a missed field goal that could have tied the game with under 2 minutes left to play, but one play that happened earlier in the fourth quarter stood out above the rest.
The Bills were down 27-24 with roughly 13 minutes left in the fourth, backed up on their own 30-yard line. They decided to run a fake punt with Damar Hamlin taking the carry. They needed five yards to get the first down and Hamlin failed convert.
A Fake Punt to…DAMAR HAMLIN?!
I mean seriously, if I was a Buffalo Bills fan I would be pissed.
It’s like Sean McDermott thought he was in Remember the Titans or the star of some Disney movie by running this play to Damar Hamlin, someone who’s only appeared in five games this season and has played a total of what…20 snaps?
Listen, I understand that pretty much all NFL players, specifically on the defensive side of the football in the secondary (Damar Hamlin) are freak athletes but at the same time, this is a Buffalo Bills team that has Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, James Cook, and literally an entire offensive unit that should have been given the football.
…instead, McDermott and his special teams unit gives the football to Damar Hamlin or really, a Safety on your defensive unit down three points in the fourth quarter on your own 30-yard line.
Forget the Super Bowl.
The Buffalo Bills were looking to capitalize on Hamlin winning Comeback Player of the Year.
Side Note: Speaking of that, you can completely forget Hamlin winning that award now, right?
Kansas City Chiefs were given the NFL Script and saw this play but basically said “fuck that”. Roger Goodell and company must have been HEATED.
One shot. One opportunity. Failed conversion on a fake punt. Bills are sent home in the Divisional Round yet again.
