Luka Doncic drops 73-points against the Hawks just days after Embiid scored 70-points against the Spurs
Just a few days removed from Joel Embiid dropping 70-points on the San Antonio Spurs, Luka Doncic scored 73-points last night against the Atlanta Hawks.
Embiid was the ninth player in NBA history to score 70 or more points in a game. He scored 24 points in the first quarter and was unstoppable from, well, everywhere on the basketball court. By halftime, Embiid scored a career-high 34 points, passing the 30+ point mark for the 21st consecutive game. At the end of the third quarter, Embiid amassed 59 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 assists on 21-of-35 shooting from the floor and 16-of-17 shooting from the foul line.
Joel Embiid ended the game with 70 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block. He shot 24-of-41 from the floor and 21-of-23 from the free throw line.
JOEL EMBIID: 70 PTS | 18 REB | 5 AST
Luka Doncic became No. 10 and the 4th player to reach that mark in the last year
Only 9 players in NBA history have hit the 60-point mark more than once:
- Wilt Chamberlain – 32
- Kobe Bryant – 6
- Michael Jordan – 5
- Damian Lillard – 5
- Elgin Baylor – 4
- James Harden – 4
- Karl Towns – 2
- Devin Booker – 2
- Luka Dončić – 2
Luka dropped 73 while only missing 8 shots. He did so on 25-of-33 shooting, 8-of-13 from 3-point range and 15-of-16 on free throws, with 10 rebounds and seven assists in 44 minutes played.
Much like Karl-Anthony Towns scoring 62-points on the same night as Embiid, Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker scored 62-points of his own last night against the Indiana Pacers.
Booker and KAT both suffered losses. Embiid and Doncic earned the wins.
Listen, 73-points is ALWAYS impressive. Luka was very efficient last night too. However, when the defense looks like this, I could have very well been the 11th player in NBA history to eclipse the 70-point mark.
