Philadelphia Eagles hire former Cowboys and Chargers OC Kellen Moore as new Offensive Coordinator
The Philadelphia Eagles announced this morning that they will be hiring former offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers Kellen Moore.
Kellen Moore is the new Offensive Coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles
The move comes just two days after hiring Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator in the first move of a “coaching staff overhaul” from Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni.
I think it’s pretty clear that Kellen Moore isn’t the “boy genius football mind” that the media shoved down our throats ever since he started calling plays for the Dallas Cowboys in 2019.
If he was, then he would most likely still be in Dallas or at the very least, back in Los Angeles with John Harbaugh and the Chargers.
As a member of the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coaching staff, Moore’s offense ranked Top 4 in points per game (27.7), yards per game (391) and third-down conversion percentage (44%).
I am excited for Kellen Moore based off the single statistic that he runs a shit ton of motion. Just look at how bad the Eagles were last season with any time of motion and compare that to the Chargers, who were a Top 10 motion offense.
MOTION, MOTION, MOTION
No. 8: Chargers (25.9%)
No. 32: Eagles (10.9%)
Not to mention, if you pull up some of the route charts from the Chargers wide receivers last season, you’ll see a clear difference in the routes being run by their wide receivers compared to what DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown were doing with the Eagles.
Kellen Moore Offense – Route Charts – Beautiful
So yeah, the Eagles are getting a guy who’s in Top 10 motion rate, considered one of the best in the NFL at getting receivers open, and is somehow just 35-years old but has years of experience calling plays and coordinating an offense.
At the end of the day, Kellen Moore and new Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio aren’t named Brian Johnson and Sean Desai so I guess it’s a reason to be excited heading into next season…right? RIGHT?!
