George Kittle gives his take on The Rock, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns WrestleMania controversy

Wrestlemania 40 has a chance to be the biggest event in WWE’s long history.

This year’s event, which takes place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, expected to see Cody Rhodes, son of the American Dream Dusty Rhodes, face off with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Reigns has ruled over WWE since returning in 2020, holding the top title for 1,254 days and counting — the 4th longest reign in history behind Bob Backlund.

Rhodes’ primary goal has been to capture the top championship in WWE, a feat his father was never able to do. He came close in the main event of last year’s Wrestlemania, where Rhodes challenged Reigns for the undisputed title, but came up short due to Reigns’ family interfering in the match.

Ever since, Rhodes has vowed to get back to Reigns and “finish the story.” He all but solidified his rematch this year when he won back-to-back Royal Rumble matches, the first person to do so since Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1998.

Plans have seemingly changed, however, with Rhodes stepping aside for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson last Friday night on Smackdown.

The storyline switch has wrestling fans in a frenzy, to say the least. Many feel as though WWE is putting a big-money match between Rock and Reigns ahead of a storyline that fans have invested in for two years. In a way, they are correct.

“We’re starting off hot and I love it,” Kittle said. “That’s the question I’ve been wanting to … So, it’s funny. You see everything online and everyone’s talking about ‘We want Cody’ or it’s Roman and The Rock … You know, what I’m a huge Cody Rhodes fan. I like Roman Reigns. The Rock, hey, he coined the term ‘The People’s Tight End’ so I’m indebted to The Rock. Huge fan of him.

“Honestly, my dream would be like kind of a setup, I saw this online, Roman shows up signs the contract. Cody’s on the other side, The Rock referees. Wouldn’t that be fun and special? Let’s make it fun and interesting. It’s not my own idea but I thought it was really cool.”

Kittle is a known WWE fan, appearing at WrestleMania 39 in Inglewood, California last year. The star tight end interfered in Pat McAfee’s match against The Miz and hit the latter with a big clothesline.

No matches have been made official as of yet, and the WWE could still make Rhodes vs. Reigns if the fan backlash is overwhelming. We’ll see how it plays at the WrestleMania 40 kickoff press event this Thursday.
