WATCH: Jimmy Butler choked out during massive brawl between Heat and Pelicans ending in 4 ejections

The Miami Heat visited the New Orleans Pelicans last night for a hotly-contested matchup. Jimmy Butler’s squad was playing a physical game, but it kicked up a few notches after a hard “foul” by Kevin Love on Zion Williamson sent the Pelicans into a tizzy.

The initial beef was ignited by a Zion flop, and things escalated when Naji Marshall choked Jimmy Butler:

The scuffle between Butler and Marshall was a little tough to see from the original broadcast angle. Fortunately, with an abundance of cameras in NBA arenas, we got a clear look at the two going at it after the initial foul.

Butler didn’t take kindly to Marshall putting his hands on Kevin Love, and let him know with a shove. From there, shit really hit the fan, and he got a hand wrapped around his throat for the trouble.

Fans even started throwing things at Miami players from the stands. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think NOLA fans were begging for Malace at the Palace II: Electric Boogaloo.

Jimmy Butler and Naji Marshall were both ejected from the game. Joining them was Heat reserve player Thomas Bryant and known pest Jose Alvarado.

Jimmy said he shouldn’t have been ejected, and honestly, I agree with him. He basically told Marshall to back up and got choked out for it. Not sure as to why that’s an ejection, but that’s life in the NBA.

We hadn’t seen a brawl quite like this one since back in November when the Warriors played the Timberwolves and Draymond Green put Rudy Gobert in a headlock. At least this one was during the fourth quarter in a close game and not in the first 15 seconds of regulation.

Of course, “tough guy” Jimmy took to social media after the game to rub the Heat victory in a little bit more. He’s known for his firey play, so other Eastern Conference teams can’t be happy with NOLA for firing him up as the playoffs swiftly approach.
