According to Eagles insider Derrick Gunn, it doesn’t appear like the Birds are in the running for free agent safety Justin Simmons any longer.

Although Gunn is certainly a trusted source for this kind of information, I wouldn’t rule out Simmons just yet. Howie Roseman is always scheming something up, and I can’t imagine he’d get gun shy because the price is too high, as Gunn suggests. Nevertheless, the Eagles still have plenty of safety options available on the open market if they don’t end up with Simmons.

They already got one on Tuesday with the signing of CJ Gardner-Johnson. Other names to keep an eye on include Kam Curl from Washington, Quandre Diggs of Seattle, and Indy’s Julian Blackmon. While Simmons is the prize of this free agent safety class, all three of those guys would be solid signings for Philadelphia.

Howie SZN is still in full effect. Can’t wait to see how it continues to play out.
