NFL Rumors: Eagles tried to trade for Justin Fields before pivoting to Kenny Pickett
The Eagles secured a new backup quarterback yesterday, acquiring QB Kenny Pickett from the Steelers in a pick-swap deal.
Pickett wasn’t the only player Philadelphia had their eyes on, however.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported Friday on SportsCenter that the Eagles inquired about Bears’ QB Justin Fields before settling on Pickett.
“The Eagles, from what I understand talking to sources around the league, were one of the teams that had talked to the Bears about Justin Fields, but obviously could not get to the point where they agreed on a price, so they traded for Pickett.”

Chicago, who holds the No. 1 overall pick in next month’s draft, will likely move on from Fields this offseason to clear the way for Caleb Williams.
With Atlanta signing Kirk Cousins and Pittsburgh taking a gamble on Russell Wilson, Fields may have to settle for a high-profile backup role as the starting options dwindle.
In Philadelphia, Fields would’ve been able to study behind two-time Pro Bowler Jalen Hurts while serving as a scheme-friendly insurance policy for Kellen Moore.
Alas, Chicago’s asking price was too high, and the Eagles looked elsewhere. It’ll be interesting to see where Fields lands and how his career trajectory will be impacted moving forward.
