Birdland Envy: Orioles call up No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Holliday and I’m on the verge of spending my summer at Camden Yards

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Baltimore Orioles have decided to call up their top prospect and bonafide phenom Jackson Holliday. The 20-year old is expected to make his Major League debut tonight against the Boston Red Sox at 7:10PM.

The No. 7 Orioles jersey hasn’t been worn in Baltimore since former manager Cal Ripken Sr. died. The last player to wear it was Billy Ripken.

The Orioles asked the Ripken family whether Jackson Holliday could wear No. 7. Yes. They “are thrilled that Jackson is wearing #7,” a spokesperson said.

Holliday is the son of ex-MLB All-Star Matt Holliday and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. He is widely considered to be the best prospect in baseball – playing both middle infield positions. Like his father, Holliday can straight-up RAKE and his talents were on full display during Spring Training, batting practice.311 with a .954 OPS with two home runs, six RBIs, and six runs scored. 

After starting the season in the minors, Holliday quickly proved he belonged in the majors after murdering a baseball in his first at-bat for Norfolk while slashing .342/.490/.605 slash line over nine games in Triple-A.
