Cheeseball Man

New York’s “Cheeseball Man” is a cheap imitation, confirms NYC is in cultural decline

The cultural fabric of New York City is unraveling by the day. This weekend, yet another symptom of the city’s collective psychosis reared its ugly head: Cheeseball Man.

The masked man posted flyers across town with him holding a massive tub of cheeseballs, encouraging people to come to watch him eat the whole thing at Union Square Park.

Cheeseball Man brought a crowd and went viral on Twitter despite being a clear rip-off of Philadelphia’s Rotisserie Chicken Guy and still failed to really deliver:

Let’s call it what it is, folks. This is absolutely pathetic.

Before we even get into dissecting the deeper issues at play here, just look at the size of that cheeseball bucket. What is that, a personal serving bucket? It doesn’t even match the bucket on the flyer. If anything, he could be sued for false advertising.

Hell, I probably consumed that many cheeseballs multiple times in my college dorm room. I’m not saying I deserve a parade, but I know I definitely didn’t want to “go home and throw up” after a moderate cheeseball binge like a 10-year-old at a sleepover.

Seriously, what is impressive about that? At least Rotisserie Chicken Guy consumed something no individual should really be eating in one sitting.

Plus, it was the culmination of a much longer chicken-filled journey. I wasn’t exactly into it at the time, but it was organic, and I have to respect the commitment to the bit, no matter how ludicrous.

This here was a spur-of-the-moment stunt for attention. Unlike Rotisserie Chicken Guy, Cheeseball Man will not live on in New York legend. It’s embarrassing for the city just on its face.

But this kind of derivative nonsense spells much larger trouble for New York. The city used to be a hotbed of cultural trends but has now become an amalgamation of transplants, coming to the Big City for the first time.

Real New Yorkers are a thing of the past, or at least they are no longer the city’s cultural representatives in the way they once were. The death of originality has officially arrived.

Now, residents are doing anything and everything to pass things off as “quintessentially New York” without realizing it’s been done before. And then, even worse, they celebrate false idols like Cheeseball Man in nauseating fashion.

Someone asked him if he’d run for president for Christ’s sake. Get a grip, New York, before you lose yourself completely in the void.

In reality, New York has become Reddit. I hate to say it, but it’s true. Like I said, Cheeseball Man is just a symptom of a far deeper cultural rot.
