WATCH: Rangers’ Jacob Trouba launches to hit Martin Necas, crashes head first into the boards during Game 2

New York, we have liftoff. Rangers vs Hurricanes has been a hotly contested series. with Game 2 coming down to an OT win for New York. However, the last-gasp winner isn’t the biggest story coming out of that game.

Jacob Trouba launched himself – leading with his elbow – in an effort to decapitate Hurricanes center Martin Necas, and completely whiffed:

Good lord, man. I’m far from a hockey expert, but that was one of the wildest attempted hits I can remember. Jacob Trouba even caught him in the back of his dome with his skate on the way down.

The above tweet pretty much sums it up. He almost killed Necas twice, and could have easily broken his own neck in the process. Honestly, his headhunting elbow extension probably saved him from a potentially serious injury.

Most people are saying that if the elbow connected, he’d be suspended for the series. And, uh, yeah. That would have been insane.

I get big hits are a part of the game, especially in the playoffs. There are few things I love more than a bone-crunching hit in a big moment. But thank god that one didn’t land.
