Chiefs’ Harrison Butker under fire for comments made during commencement speech

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is in hot water after clips from his commencement speech at Benedictine College went viral.

People were not happy with Harrison Butker’s comments on the future of the female graduates in the class he was addressing:

Look, do I 100% agree with Harrison Butker saying a woman’s life starts when she becomes a wife and a mother? No, not even remotely.

Women can and should do whatever the hell they want with their lives. But at the same time, if someone feels truly fulfilled in the role of a homemaker, does that make her a lesser person because she fits into that box? I sure as hell don’t think so.

It really is just funny to see what people get completely outraged by in this country. He’s a Catholic guy speaking to a Catholic guy at a Catholic university. If he didn’t say these things he probably wouldn’t have even gotten the invite to speak in the first place.

In fact, the people in the crowd went nuts for it. It’s not like he went out on a limb here, a lot of people in this country feel that way. I’m not one of them, but that’s not relevant here.

He even got choked up speaking about what an amazing woman his wife is. Some people want different things in life, be it because of preference, religious beliefs, or anything in between.

Naturally, it was met with people attempting to have him removed from the team. I didn’t exactly love what he said, but I’m not a devout Catholic. I’d probably feel that way regardless of what religion he practiced. Superreligious people give the creeps.

But some shit just goes too far. The official KANSAS CITY TWITTER ACCOUNT tweeted this out. It was deleted, and an apology was issued, but Jesus Christ, people, what exactly do you want to accomplish here?

It’s also a little more funny because people are losing their minds over his ideas of a woman’s role in society. Meanwhile, there are other religions that go way way way further on that front. I’m not saying they’re inherently bad, but the double standard is just a little interesting is all.

I was raised Catholic, but I’m not practicing because I don’t really believe in a lot of the stuff he said. The shot at Pride Month wasn’t really cool. Some of my homies are gay and they’re cool as fuck.

He also allegedly hooked up with a dude in college, which always seems to be the case for people coming out as anti-gay. I can’t say I’m surprised; just look at that hair.

Of course, the other side of the aisle absolutely ate this whole thing up. Harrison Butker’s jersey is the Most Popular in both men’s and women’s sizes on the NFL shop.

Again, I don’t have a horse in this race. I’m just observing and reporting, nothing more, nothing less.

I’ve included the full speech below. I waited to watch it until I judged Harrison Butker as a person.
