NFL Rumors: Eagles linked to free-agent defensive tackle as OTAs get underway

While the Eagles completely re-tooled their secondary this offseason, they could use additional depth up front.

DT Fletcher Cox officially retired after 12 seasons, leaving young players Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Milton Williams to man the middle.

If Philadelphia decides they want a veteran presence along the interior, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has them linked to a pass-rusher who’s still available on the open market:

Calais Campbell, Edge

Best team fit: Philadelphia Eagles

A return to Atlanta is a possibility for Campbell if he decides to play another season at age 38. He tied for the team lead in sacks last season with 6.5. But I’m instead looking at the Eagles.

Campbell would fit in Vic Fangio’s 30 front as a rotational end, building more depth. At 6-foot-8 and 282 pounds, he can hold the point against the run game when matched up with offensive tackles, and he was a productive player last season for the Falcons, registering 28 pressures.

I see Campbell as a total pro who could help multiple NFL squads.

Campbell is well past his prime, but at 6-foot-8, 282 pounds, he could help shore up Philly’s defensive line.

Across his 16-year NFL career, the former All-Pro has compiled 105.5 sacks, 254 QB hits, and 17 forced fumbles while being named to six Pro Bowls. If Campbell desires one more crack at a Super Bowl, there’s no better place to do it than Philadelphia.
