WATCH: East Carolina men’s baseball team stole home in walk-off fashion to beat Wichita State in AAC Tournament 5-4
The East Carolina men’s baseball team kept their AAC Tournament hopes alive on Saturday in thrilling, walk-off fashion, scoring the winning run by stealing home plate.
East Carolina and Wichita State were tied 4-4 with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. ECU sent Cam Clonch to the plate, who fell behind in the count 0-2 almost instantly.
The Wichita State pitcher, apparently oblivious to the fact that ECU had Dixon Williams on third base, got caught sleeping on the mound. Dixon noticed this and immediately broke for home plate, scoring the game-winning run.

Look, I have no idea what was happening on the mound there. I don’t know how the pitcher and catcher were both completely oblivious to what was going on with Dixon Williams on third base but that simply cannot happen. I mean the throw home wasn’t even close to being on time.
Wichita State should have called Griffin Burns and had him chase down Dixon from CF >>
While the win was incredible, ECU failed to finish their run through the loser’s bracket and lost to Wichita State last night 12-2, ultimately getting bounced from the AAC Tournament.
Wichita State will advance to the American Athletic Conference title game where they’ll play Tulane today at noon.
